Qwen3.8-Flash-Next

EXL3 3.05 bpw · sglang · 200K context · RTX 3090 · 24 GB

Qwen3.8's large mixture-of-experts model: far more knowledge than the 27B, with few active parameters, so it stays fast.

Run it

Follow the steps below to download and run this recipe. Omarchy Local AI lists the recipes it can launch on your hardware. The server then answers on http://localhost:8000/v1.

  1. 1 Set up first
    # NEEDS: 1x RTX 3090 24 GB (the server takes the whole card: 21,562 MiB at ready, 24,026 MiB peak with a 4096x4096 image; the expert cache auto-sizes to free VRAM, so nothing else may use the GPU); 75 GB of free system RAM (measured system-wide MemAvailable drop at server ready; process peaks: scheduler 63.4 GB RSS + launcher 2.0 + detokenizer 1.7; page-locked: 45.8 GB routed experts + 8 GB n-gram row cache + 1.18 GB token embedding); 85.14 GB for the weights on a LOCAL NVMe SSD (52.3 GB of shards read once at load; the 32.6 GB n-gram table is random-read with O_DIRECT while serving, so no network or tmpfs filesystem). Text and images (256x256 to 4096x4096 tested; EXL3 ViT decoded to bf16 at load, CPU preprocessing, SDPA ViT attention, ViT MLP chunk 8192). Launch = trellis-serve cuda/scripts/serve_flashnext_3090.sh at 1e72b25 plus --reasoning-parser qwen3 --tool-call-parser qwen3_coder (not in the measured runs), on a bridge network with --shm-size 64g where the measured runs used --ipc=host --ulimit memlock=-1. First start JIT-compiles the n-gram NVMe extension (~1 min). Protocol sweep VIS010 (omarchy, PCIe 4.0 x16, 26.2 GB/s host-to-device): prefill 8k 2,627.5 / 16k 2,785.0 / 32k 2,846.0 / 64k 2,824.3 tok/s; decode aggregate C1 62.70 / C2 77.44 / C3 84.76 / C4 79.31 tok/s, C1 at 32k context 62.50. Quality vs stock exllamav3: text panel top-1 0.99067 / KL 0.000956; vision gate top-1 0.9729 / KL 0.00825, 8/8 answers correct. Context 204,800, KV pool 209,984 tokens fp8. A rented 3090 with 14-16 GB/s host-to-device decoded 53.2 tok/s (V001b): PCIe bandwidth matters. SGLANG_EXL3_NGRAM_TIER=pinned keeps the n-gram table in RAM instead (+24.6 GB RAM, no NVMe needed). Video: a 4 s mp4 (four slides '1 RED' .. '4 YELLOW') sent as a video_url data URL was described slide by slide in order on this image digest (SMOKEVID-3090-ce47: 880 video tokens, finish=stop; receipt image and text panel 0.9877 / 0.00102 in the same run).

What it passed
✓ loadLoads and serves within an hour
✓ chatAnswers a plain question and stops on its own
✓ reasoningThinks separately and gets 17 × 23 right
✓ toolsCalls a tool with the right arguments and uses the result
✓ contextRecalls a code buried in a prompt that fills 85% of the window
✓ speedDecodes at 15 tok/s or more

Passed all six checks on a real RTX 3090 on Sep 29, 2026.
